Buy the Right Mac

Why Buy the Right Mac?

In case its not obvious the myriad uses of such a site I’ll explain it to you. Every time you go to purchase a new computer you are faced with dozens of options: screen size, CPU, RAM, memory size, brand, price, accessories, etc. You’ve already made the most important one, which brand to buy, now we can guide you through the differences between what Apple offers, to help you pick the right cpmputer for you.

Nothing is worse than going to the computer store and being bamboozled into more computer than you will ever need. While things like DVI input may sound useful in the store, you may not even remember what its use is down the road, let alone ever use it. Knowing what is offered will help you sort through things you must have, things it would be ncie to have for possible future use, and things you will never need.

Bigger is not always better. Just because they offer a billion gigabyte version doesn’t mean you need it to just check your e-mail and chat with your son in college. Determining how much processor speed and memory you really need is the first step in deciding what computer to go with. Most likely the more speed and memory you need the more likely you are to choose a desktop. Laptops simply don’t fit as much in their slim, sleek cases. Salespeople love to talk about how fast or how much memory a computer has but you may not need it all.

Price is always a factor as well. The bigger the memory, the faster the processor, the bigger the screen, the more it will cost. While you may not want to squint at a small twelve inch screen you may not need a twenty inch screen either. You may not need a terabyte of memory if you only check e-mail and don’t save much. You may not need the upgrade to the fancier software.

But can you trust the salespeople to tell you the truth and help you select the proper computer for you? Most salespeople work on commission when it comes to computers. Even if they don’t get a commission, they most likely get a bonus based on which system they sell. This means it is in their best interest to sell you the biggest, best, most expensive computer they can. Even if its more than you want to spend, more than you can use, and not what you had in mind at all. And worse yet, if you get home and realize your mistake there is often a restocking fee, up to 20% of the sales price.

By utilizing the knowledge offered on Buy the Right Mac you can get the information you need before you go shopping. You can decide if you want a desktop or a laptop and possibly the exact model. This means you can make the salespeople help you get what you want, and not the other way around.
